Category: FEB HALF TERM
Didn’t quite make it to Zurmatt this half term? Nope, me neither! But who cares, for we have delights aplenty in Blighty and not just out on our doorstep. Here are 9 great options if you fancy a day trip out.
Half term week for schools in Warwickshire is 20 – 24 Feb fact fans, so this week is a grand tim for Bucks/Oxon families to head up to Warwick Castle during its relatively quieter week.
Want to get the kids off their devices and into the fresh air? Here’s my pick of the best local heritage properties, gardens and grounds.
National Trust options
At Stowe Landscape Gardens (above) near Buckingham, there’s a fun take on their kids’ trails with different choices for kids to make: will they pick the naughty path, the path of goodies or choose to be a hero?
On the off-chance the sun doesn’t do its stuff, no worries, Muddy has it covered – there’s always Vitamin D drops and loads of brilliant stuff you can do with your little darlings indoors. Here are our top picks for the week ahead.
OUR FAVOURITE LOCAL MUSEUMS
1/ Think, Make, Do, Cyber, Bletchley Park, Mon 13 – Sat 18 Feb
Every day this week, drop-in workshops, games and activities at Bletchley Park bring the world of the wartime codebreakers bang up to date with a look at online safety, asking you how secure your own password is and sharing how you can spot the tell-tale signs of a phish.
BEST OF THE EXHIBITIONS:
Degas to Picasso, Ashmolean, Oxford
After the success of last year’s Andy Warhol exhibition, the fabulous Ashmolean Museum in Oxford spools back to 19th century bohemian Paris where Manet, Pissarro, Cezanne, Degas and Picasso were collectively whipping up era-defining paintings and dreaming up the Modernist movement. It promises to be a doozy. And for a post-culture coffee or bite, don’t miss the chic Ashmolean Dining Rooms on the top floor, with its cute outdoor terrace for when things get a bit warmer.
For once we’re out of the starting blocks earlyish on Half Term, and rather than an exhaustive calendar of stuff to do, plus lots of scrolling through this and that, we’re scaling it back and really curating hard so that you can clearly see the very best in courses, day out locally, day trips away, adult stuff to do (nothing X-rated I’m afraid *sniff*) and suggestions for rainy days. All the top tips will be up on the blog in the next few days AND also accessible from the KIDS drop down menu at the top under the Half Term category.
