Glazebrook House: A Rabbit Hole You’ll Want To Tumble Down

20 Jan 2017

New Year New Muddies! You can now, delightfully, receive your Muddy Stilettos fix in 13 counties – the fragrant Muddy Cambridgshire and Muddy Devon have just launched and my, they’re looking pretty.

I’ve been writing a bit about potential holidays on the south coast over the last few weeks and so thought I should let you know you about Glazebrook Hotel, an amazing place in South Brent that Devon Muddy ed Sharon has already squirrelled out and reviewed below.

Stay here: Vanbrugh House Hotel, Oxford

6 Sep 2016

You had me at ‘Georgian front door’. Vanbrugh House Hotel won the Muddy Stilettos Award 2016 for best boutique hotel and having stayed the night it’s easy to see why. This honey-stoned beauty, bang in central Oxford, offers something a bit different. Firstly, there’s no restaurant for dinner and no bar, and I loved that, because it feels very modern – why have one of those fusty hotel eateries when you’re on St Michael’s St with all the city delights within a 2 minute walk?

Fit for a queen

18 Jul 2016

Fancy something a bit different on the blogaroo today? No problem, may I offer you a stay in the Cotswolds castle where Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn spent 10 days of their honeymoon? Yes, seriously!

This gorgeous piece of stoneware is Thornbury Castle, a Tudor beauty built between 1512 – 1521 whose history includes the beheading of its owner Edward Stafford, the Duke of Buckingham on charges of treason.

All hail The Crown inn, Woodstock

25 Jun 2016

Cool place to stay alert! Muddy Stilettos recently had the rather preeny pleasure of being the first journo to try out bedrooms in the 18th century former coaching inn of  The Crown in Woodstock (I know, where’s my trophy?). The Crown has given the other pubs and inns in the town a bit of a shake up since it launched in 2015, but the rooms have seen months of delay and were only completed in March.

Win a luxury £1000 Spa Escape!

9 Mar 2016

In I float, a vision of loveliness, wearing my flounciest, bouffiest sparkly fairy dress, waving my magic wand – brrrrrrriiing! –  giving you the chance to win the kind of prize I’d sell Prince Charming for.

Stoke Park is the hotel where Bridget Jones romped on the four poster with Daniel Carver (and where I later snored my way through  in replica big pants); where Daniel Craig acted his ears off in Layercake; where James Bond played golf in Goldfinger.

Muddy stays: The Elms hotel, Worcester

18 Feb 2016

I used to go on sooooo many short UK breaks when I lived in London – like most city-dwellers I was desperate to escape the smoke and see some sheep. But somehow with kids and school and, er, lack of funds, it’s much more of an occasional treat these days. I took the kids and my mum off to The Elms hotel in Abberley, near Worcester a few weeks back, one of the small group of Luxury Family Hotels that are frankly a godsend to anyone with children under the age of 12.

Stay here: The Wild Rabbit, Kingham

25 Nov 2015

Well, this is a no-brainer. Anyone who lives in or near the Cotswolds has no doubt already heard of The Wild Rabbit, the super-chic 12 room boutique hotel that revolutionised the humble inn with its pretty stone,  Farrow & Balled ledges, and gorgeous reworking of rural luxury.

This one of those rare glorious features where the photos will do most of the talking – yeah baby, I’m gonna rest my fingers right here!

Win a £1000 luxury family weekend!

8 Nov 2015

I don’t know about you but I’m knackered. It’s so tough at this time of year to keep going, with the weather turning, and work cranking up and Christmas around the corner. Somehow this year I’ve not managed to take many holidays. Bad Mistake. Although I like hanging out at home, I’ve realised recently how important physically getting away is – it somehow clears the mind and leaves you so much more relaxed.

REVIEW: *Brilliant* family getaway near Bath

17 Oct 2015

I always get a tingle when I find something I know Muddy readers will love too and whoa, I’m feeling it big style on this one. If you’re looking for a family break with younger kids, this is totally it. Last weekend I went down to Woolley Grange, about 6 miles from Bath with the Muddy clan and it pretty much ticked every box. A triumph of relaxation frankly.

Just spotted this quick break deal from Luxury Family Hotels and it’s right up Muddy avenue. I’ve been to a couple of the LFH hotels and they’re fantastic – great for kids, luxe for parents but unpretentious and good value and in the most stupendously beautiful locations – Cornish beaches, Suffolk countryside, New Forest woodlands.

Until the end of this month (well, the 28th June) they’re offering an extra Sunday for £50 a room with bed and breakfast  – DID YOU YOU COMPUTE THAT?!!
