HALF TERM 2017 – Outdoor fun for families

10 Feb 2017

Want to get the kids off their devices and into the fresh air? Here’s my pick of the best local heritage properties, gardens and grounds.

National Trust options

At Stowe Landscape Gardens (above)  near Buckingham, there’s a fun take on their kids’ trails with different choices for kids to make: will they pick the naughty path, the path of goodies or choose to be a hero?

Half Term courses – book em in, boot em out!

3 Feb 2017

For once we’re out of the starting blocks earlyish on Half Term, and rather than an exhaustive calendar of stuff to do, plus lots of scrolling through this and that, we’re scaling it back and really curating hard so that you can clearly see the very best in courses, day out locally, day trips away, adult stuff to do (nothing X-rated I’m afraid *sniff*) and suggestions for rainy days. All the top tips will be up on the blog in the next few days AND also accessible from the KIDS drop down menu at the top under the Half Term category.

Early bird Muddy summer festival guide. Book now!

9 Jan 2017

The music festival season feels a long, long way off right now (although we wouldn’t say no to a pear cider if you’re offering) but these days you’ve got to book mega early if you want to be happy campers come summer. Many of the biggies sell out in a flash – we haven’t managed to score Glastonbury tickets for years – but the good news is lots of the local events still have availability and most of them are family friendly.

See this: Christmas at Blenheim

27 Nov 2016

I think it’s fair to say that when Blenheim Palace decides to do something, it does it with bells, whistles, fanfares and a whole lot of style.  This is the first year that the estate has created an illuminated walkway, picking up on a trend that’s been happening for some time at the likes of Waddesdon Manor and Westonbirt Arboretum, and they’ve done a fantastic job of it.

Your intrepid correspondent (me, in case you’re wondering) was one of the first to walk the hour-long path that takes guests down the back of the palace, over to the boating lake, up through the Capability Brown-designed grounds and finally to the lakeside lodge where Father Christmas is hamming it up until 2 Jan, and even though I did it solo, it was massively enjoyable.

Try this: Longridge Activity Days for kids

10 Aug 2016

I wrote this last July, but I’m running it again to give you a good flavour of what these Longridge Activity Days are about because my kids aren’t booked on until next week and you’ll want to know about it before they get booked out!

*******************************

Why didn’t I do this before? Last week I sent my son on a Activity Day to Longridge, 5 minutes from the centre of Marlow, and he had the time of his life.

What to do with the kids?

12 Jul 2016

Wahhhh! I’ve left it totally last minute yet again to book the mudlets into holiday courses and out of my hair. Why, why, why do I always do that? If you’re as disorganised as me, fear not, because I’ve done a last-minute trawl of cool courses, camps and other childcare-masquarading-as-fun options to help ease your way through the Summer. It’s a bit of a scratch list so if you have any suggestions of things you’ve booked kids into or know of, please do add in the comment box below.

The Muddy Summer Festival Guide: Oxon, Bucks & beyond

27 Jun 2016

I’m a dedicated Glastonbury lover from the *ahem*  comfort of my sofa – I had an awesome front row of Chris Martin for starters, and let me tell you, the toilet facilities are way better. But whether you’re a namby-pamby glamper like me or a hardcore roll-in-mud and wet-wipes-at-dawn music-fan, here’s the Muddy Guide to the best festivals due to amp-it-up in Bucks, Oxon and beyond over the next few months.
