Paul Wilkinson: a photographer going up in the world
Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Art/Museums features here.
Someone is going up in the world, but buggeration and humbug, it’s not me.
On my daily walk down the High St in Haddenham, slightly high from my first cappuccino of the day, I’ve noticed that a certain Paul Wilkinson – Master Photography Awards contemporary photographer of the year 2012, rookie marathon runner, Haddenham stalwart – has got himself some swanky new studio space.
I know this because I elbowed my way in for a nose (oh come, at least I didn’t tap his phone). I think he’s been super-smart actually, because there’s the most glorious garden at the back, full of twists and turns and bursts of colour and unusual water features, ideal for capturing shots of families/kids running and playing.
There’s also large photographic studio up top and a whole lot of Seventies architectural funk going on through the office that was probably unforgiveable 10 years ago but strangely fashionable again in 2012.
Now I find out there’s a bleedin’ open day at the studio on March 17th (11am-4pm) so I could have saved myself the cloak-and-dagger. But hey, I love to live life on the edge. I’m pushing the envelope for thrills and excitement. I’m breaking out of the cliche box with my blue-sky thinking. Don’t tell me to play by the rules. I can’t! I won’t!
