What a night!

It was our first ever Muddy literary salon last week, and we had a blast! If you didn't make it, here's what you missed.

From left: Kerry Potter, Tasmina Perry, Sasha Wilkins, Hero Brown, Elizabeth Heathcote, Alexandra Heminsley and Clover Stroud.

We came, we saw, we chinwagged. And we drank all the champagne, naturally. A massive THANK YOU to all you Muddy readers who came along to our inaugural, sold out literary salon last Thursday, in collaboration with Thame Arts & Literature Festival – the organisers of which told us you were the most glamorous, gorgeous crowd they’ve ever seen in the history of the festival, no less!

Introducing the authors, waiting stage left!

We hope you were as inspired as we were by the fabulous, funny stories Kerry and I winkled out of our best-selling authors Tasmina Perry, Elizabeth Heathcote, Alexandra Heminsley, Sasha Wilkins (aka LibertyLondonGirl) and Clover Stroud. Such big names come with entourages, naturally – Alex was accompanied by her five-month-old baby Linus, who slept through the entire shebang, while Sasha was toting her miniature dachshund Lettice, who has more Instagram followers than the lot of us put together.

Our favourite bits? Tasmina’s revelation that she once had a massage with Julio Iglesias (‘Not in a Harvey Weinstein way, mind’), thriller writer Elizabeth explaining how she knew she wasn’t cut out for writing chick-lit when she murdered a character in chapter 2;  and Clover’s evocatively saucy reading from her memoir, The Wild Other, about a night of passion with Shay the sexy Texan cowboy. Blimey!

Lots of you were asking about our gorgeous stage-set, especially those vibrant palm-print cushions and Sixties chairs.

Our interior-design geniuses were the brilliant Chris and Rob from Secret Messages Interiors, a palace of homeware delights in Buckingham – multiple Muddy Award winners, they recently opened a second huge warehouse in the town, but they also dress houses, upholster and generally make everything beautiful. Check out their website, they rock.

A big thank you also to Powder, the lovely cosmetics and skincare boutique in Thame selling cool niche brands like REN, Miller Harris and Dr Hauschka who provided gorgeous goodie bags for the assembled crowd.

And we know lots of you missed out on tickets, but fear not – we filmed the whole thing and the links are just below if you fancy a gander.

Dog-sitting for Sasha Wilkins – Lettice is distinctly uncomfortable

So, how was it for you? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments box below. And watch this space – more marvellous Muddy events coming your way soon!

Thanks Muddy and TAL – a very enjoyable night indeed. How well fizz and intellectual stimulation go together, who knew? (Ok ok, probably could’ve guessed!). Authentic and compelling authors with inspiring personal stories, each and every one. Feel free to curate further genre diversity and shake it/us up a bit at MuddyTAL2 :-). Thanks to Powder for the unexpected goodies, love that shop. Go sisters x

Thank you gorgeous, Muddy ladies! WHAT a fab night it was! Having recently returned to the UK, and Thame, after 15 years abroad, this was my first official night out, and your super event did not disappoint! Such an accomplished and entertaining line up on stage – not to mention the palpable energy from the wholly (?) female audience. Please, please do more of these – even with panellists from other realms such as fashion/interiors/travel and so on? Sarah xo
