WATCH THIS: A cool sanitary pad advert (*thud*)

bodyform-blood-period-ad

It’s not often I’m compelled to write about sanitary pads, but let it not be said that your intrepid correspondent won’t try anything once –  just ask Mr Muddy (JOKE!). Anway, here people, is the first ever decent sanitary pad advert. No laughing women in floaty white dresses clinking glasses with impossibly smug amours. No close ups of purple liquid being poured onto pristine pads of joy.

The ad, for Bodyform, is called Blood and taps into the same can-do girl-powery vibe as This Girl Can. See what you think – you might love it you might hate it! Either way, be sure to let me know.

Love it! Men would probably stay home in bed if they had Periods and cramps!

Dreadful! I can almost imagine the male advertising execs sitting around the table designing that one. ‘But Geoff, why do we shy away from showing blood? Let’s just go there…’ LOL. Blood from injuries bears no relation to menstrual blood. The first says either, I worked hard on my sport OR I messed up and ouch! The second is about being fertile, feeling your body renew itself and do what it’s supposed to do, each month. Dread to think what they’ll come up with next.

Great. Real women being active and not just accessories draped over things!
