Check out these gel nails!

Gel nails – I have a bit of a love-hate thing with them, don’t you?  Last year I went through a stage of having them done loads, and by the end of the summer my nails were horrifically thin and weak. Why? Well OK, mea culpa, tis true I am the master-picker-offer of Shelacs, OPIs  and Jessicas. Once one of those critters starts to chip or come away, I can’t rest until I’ve peeled off all ten nails.

But now gel nails v 2 have come to Cannelle salon in Henley and Oxford in the form of US brand Essie, with Cannelle the first Oxfordshire salons to stock their latest incarnation.

There’s technology in them there pots of colour, with the gel actually protecting and nourishing the nail and stopping it frankly ripping to shreds when you take the gel off (and there is a liquid that takes it off too, which I like – you can buy it in the salon).

I went for a full pedicure on the Muddy hooves (because frankly *sigh* they need it). And also I’ve had several really good pedicures from Cannelle, I’m convinced the Europeans must take better care of their feet… I took this photo and then, er, stopped, closed my eyes and went to pedi heaven for a little bit.

Then it was out of one room and into another (because each of the girls has her own permanent room in the Henley salon) to a different beautician who gave me a beautiful manicure and applied the bright orange nails that tell me summer is here.

She made me hoot as she told me she didn’t like the colour – the French, she said, would never choose that shade and she’s probably right! Here it is when I’m at The Dressing Room, having my try-on-clothes day.

And my red toes from that day too.

Not sure whether it’s incredibly uncool to have two different colours on toes and hands but who flippin cares?

It’s worth knowing that the Cannelle salon in Henley is smaller than its Oxford sister with only three therapists. I had two of them and they were both brilliant! No problem in recommending Cannelle, those gallic gals really know their stuff. Two weeks on, my nails are still looking perfect.
