I’ve been waiting for an excuse to use that headline for about 20 years. My dad got me Nick Hayward’s autograph when I was 12 – what a Fantastic Day that was. Oh come on!!
Anyway, back to the job in hand. I’m asked to recommend hair salons a lot – and by God there are a lot of them around – but I’m quite magpie-like (by which I mean last minute and disorganised) so often try different stylists, different salons, in different towns. Spirit Hair Company in Wallingford won my Muddy Award for Best Hairdressing salon last month so where better to get my tresses cut?
It’s not a flash salon, in fact it looks positively modest from the roadside and you’d have no idea that in fact it’s beaten 40,000 other salons nationwide to be British Hairdressing Salon of the Year in both 2012 and 2013 – a phenomenal achievement for a small rural salon.
But you can have all the flashy gizmos and expensive interiors that you like, what people really care about when they go for a snip is a) do I feel confident to let this person let loose on my hair b) do I feel welcome and comfortable c) does my haircut and colour actually LOOK GOOD?
My hair as horrific before I went in to Spirit- colour faded, shape all gone. A very bad hair day.
And this was me afterwards.
Sooooo much better. Doesn’t it make a massive difference to have a decent C&C?
