Muddy snip: Lifestyle hair salon, Aylesbury

Do you like your salons posh or practical? I veer wildly, probably because I do get to check out quite a range of hair salons, and can see the benefits of both. Recently I tried out Lifestyle salon on Aylesbury High St, a small salon that you might miss a few doors down from the more overtly glitzy Toni & Guy, but more fool you (and me – I’ve used that T&G for years!), because what Lifestyle lacks in pavement appeal, it makes up for once you step through the door.

For one, Lifestyle offers the loveliest, longest head massage I’ve ever had – they offer it to all their customers and it goes on for about 10 minutes – seriously! Secondly, with a second salon in Milton Keynes, there’s plenty of training and drilling to be had, and the latest buzz treatments like Olaplex are offered here. Finally, and perhaps most compelling if your purse is feeling the pinch, Lifestyle is more cost effective than the bigger, slicker salons in the area – the salon principal stylist, the very toppety notch, only costs £65 for a cut and finish while you can book the creative director for £54. And actually I’ve just been on the website and they’re offering 50% off your first cut and colour (!!), which makes it almost bonkersly good value

Salon manager Lindsey was my stylist, long of nail, cool of hair, with two kids and years of experience. She looked after both cut and colour which you either like or you don’t, though personally I enjoy the continuity of having one person look after me the whole way through.

The salon is bigger than it looks from the high street (though nowhere near the size of the likes of the big beasts like Abstract in Beaconsfield or Harington’s in Marlow), and it’s attractive enough – othing to blow your style socks off, but nothing to complain about either.

There were the usuals of coffee and biccies and hand massage, and it was all relaxed and friendly. But none of that counts for anything if you leave with your hair massacred. So let’s cut to the chase! Here you go, you tell me what you think.

Before.... Colour ..... Blow dry ...

Before (bad hair day)…                                 Colour …                                                           Blow dry …

… and Ta-da!

I was very happy actually, felt it offered good value for money, and also taught me a lesson about not being too snobby about my salons. Sometimes, practical is just perfect.

Bravo Hero ! You are so spot on Lifestyle with your comments. Josie, my hairdresser, knows exactly how to style my hair and always explains step by step how she is going to achieve it. She has always found the perfect cut and colour for me. I agree with you that the head massage offered is a real treat to create divine relaxation !!!
