Muddy tries: Facial Acupuncture

If you don’t like needles, look away now!
Here I am, a vision of beauty and serenity, trying facial acupuncture for the first time on your behalf. I know, truly beyond the call of duty on this one although I have to say I rather enjoyed it after I got over the initial jitters of having 50 needles in my face on a Thursday morning.
It’s a treatment run out of Centaur Chiropractic in Garsington, a natty little clinic that not only covers human health but also looks after the chiropractic needs of your family horses and dogs. I know, ahhhhh!
This treatment is a cosmetic one, designed to use acupuncture points to release chi and increase blood flow to the face, decrease puffiness, lessen wrinkles (hence the lines of little needles across my forehead, above, that look like beads) and encourage collagen and elastin production to strengthen the skin and tighten the facial tissues. The ‘needling’ lasts for about 15-20 minutes, and it’s incredibly personal whether it is uncomfortable or not. Generally it felt fine, like a small scratch, and then occasionally there would be a more sensitive area, but frankly compared to childbirth it was like someone tickling my feet. Once the needles were all in, I just went to sleep for 20 minutes, then they were taken out and I had some fancy vitamin B5 serum put on my skin followed by a facial massage.
Gemma is the lovely acupuncturist, fully trained with a degree in acupuncture (no 6 month diploma here) and she’s also worked in a Chinese hospital, so she really knows her stuff, which is heartening. Here she is. Hello Gemma!
The recommended range of treatments is 1o, at £60 per treatment or £240 for five, so it’s clearly an investment, but it would appear to me to be a credible, more natural and less scary mask-face option for anyone considering botox and fillers (you know who you are!). You would expect the results to show within the first 4-5 treatments and I can’t say my wrinkles ironed out seamlessly in an hour (plainly that would be a eureke moment for women all over the planet) but my skin definitely looked perkier and healthier.
Let me know if you try it (even if you remain anonymous!), I’d be interested to know how it works for you.
