Fragrance + fashion = fabulous!
We're coveting Miller Harris's divine new collab with fashion illustrator Julie Verhoeven. Too early to write a Christmas list?
We’re suckers for pretty packaging and it doesn’t come prettier than cult fragrance brand Miller Harris. Known for their chic glass bottles adorned with 18th century botanical illustrations, they’ve further ramped up their bathroom shelf appeal with a collaboration with renowned fashion illustrator Julie Verhoeven. Her playful, vibrant designs adorn the new winter range – we’re especially taken with the three fragrance set (containing Lumiere Dorée, Tea Tonique and Rose Silence), that comes with party hats that are, suffice to say, a cut above your average flimsy cracker freebie.
It’s just one of the cult brands stocked by Powder in Thame, Oxon. Tiny and tucked away down a semi-pedestrianised cobbled street amid butchers and bakers and candlestick-makers (OK, the last one’s actually a lie), it’s an unlikely spot for a cool beauty boutique but we’re big fans of Powder’s discerning edit of products. Excellent ranges that are beloved by beauty editors such as Dr Hauschka, REN (we’ll take everything in the divine Moroccan Rose Otto line, thanks) and This Works are all available; all brands Thame locals would otherwise need to trek to High Wycombe or Oxford to track down. And I hate to use the C word at this point – no not that one, I mean Christmas – but it is a great spot for fragrant pressies.
Not a local? Well, here are three more excellent Thame indie stores that make this genteel market town definitely worth a shopping jaunt….
FROM I love the ethos of this sleek interiors and gift shop, which focuses on jewellery, textiles, homeware and knick-knacks created by local craftspeople. I don’t buy birthday cards anywhere else.
The Book House This helpful, welcoming literary Mecca will order in any books it doesn’t have in stock within 24 hours – so you have absolutely no excuse to use Amazon. It’s been a Thame institution for 35 years and is renowned for its extensive, excellent selection of children’s books.
Pretty Like Pictures This unassuming-looking framing shop is where I recently nobbled my new neon art – isn’t it brilliant? I hadn’t realized it was actually an art gallery too.
