Muddy tries: the Crystal Clear COMCIT facial

A pioneering treatment that creates hundreds of tiny channels in your skin to allow oxygen and collagen to directly attack wrinkles? Yes Sunrise beauty in Marlow, I'll try that!

At the top end of Marlow, handily close to The Botanist bar, Tom Kerridge’s The Coach, and fab fash boutique My Boudoir is Sunrise, one of the town’s most established beauty salons (and a Finalist in this year’s Muddy Awards).

Clean, serene, professional. You don’t survive over 20 years amongst Marlow’s preened and pampered residents without doing something very right. The reception is bright, with shelves of pretty products, and then wiggles back into 8 treatment rooms, with their snazzy Sunrise branding. The brands they work with primarily are Elemis and Decléor.

Sunrise offers everything from the basics like ear piercings and massage through to CACI, IPL and microblading, but when a middle aged woman like me walks through the door – saggy, baggy, and vain enough to try almost anything that doesn’t involve a knife or needle – there’s only one thing for it: Crystal Clear COMCIT, a 5 in 1 facial with ‘cryo oxygen micro-channelling collagen induction therapy’. No, I didn’t understand that either, so let’s try again.

Basically the treatment delivers oxygen via hundreds of microscopic channels rolled in the skin, allowing collagen to be pushed directly at the wrinkly bits. It involves one of those masks that rubberises and looks like it’s been lifted from a horror film and when it goes on it feels like your skin’s being cemented (in a pleasant way!). I could definitely see a difference afterwards with my skin tauter and crows-feet less pronounced – much better results than a pure facial I’d say. Like most of these super-treatments though, it needs upkeep, with a course of 6 or 12 recommended.

Well, this is always the rub. One treatment is £125, six set you back £625 or it’s £1200 for 12. My view on this kind of thing is always pragmatic – afford what you can, and don’t stress if you just have one or two, because it’s probably worth having just a couple anyway to see if it works for you. For other treatments at Sunrise you pay a slight Marlow premium so one hour facials are around the £65-72 mark, 55 minute Swedish massage for £59, though the hot stone massage for 1 hour 30 for £79.50 sounds good value to me.
