See this: Bruce Munro at Waddesdon
Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Art features here.
Another day, another great event at Waddesdon Manor. Sorry to bang on about Waddesdon so much – it’s my local NT place so I guess I go to it more than others – but the truth is it puts on such an incredible array of special events and extraordinary art that it’s hard not to tell you about it.
This winter Waddesdon continues its association with artist Bruce Munro with a series of Winter Light installations around the beautiful gardens. I went to the press preview last night and had a magical time wandering the grounds at dusk, coming across his striking, humorous and sensual works. I managed to have a little chat with him (mostly to accost him to appear in My Favourite Places – Bruce if you’re reading this, get in touch!) but also to talk about how he works. He has a team of 13 who help him create and set up these amazing installations, so it’s no back-room operation, and he’s hoping to twist Waddesdon’s arm next year to let him set up a Charge of the Light Brigade installation right down the central walk way to the house…
You can see the Christmas decorations up in the main house now, so I’d recommend having your dusk walk on the weekend, followed by a tour of the house. I bombed around the Manor in 10 minutes to take some quick snaps for you.
Top off with a glass of something warm at the outside cafe (just loving the sheepskin seat covers below) and I reckon that’s just about a perfect day out.
