Shabby chic c’est freak!

Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Design features here.

Top drawer: this chest is yours for £387

When S and I rented a shoe-box in St John’s Wood, we lived bang opposite the Saatchi Gallery. Did we ever go there? No, not until the day we moved out. It took us years to ‘discover’ something great that had been right under our noses.

Now I’m having deja vu because I’ve only just gone to Pinefinders in Haddenham, despite living around here for bloody years. If you’re looking for gorgeous shabby chic armoires and cabinets or made-to-measure tables made from reclaimed pine floorboards, this is your place.

The stock comes in mostly from Eastern Europe and is sold on to traders as well as the public. No tat and no pine that’s been tango-ed. Some of the pieces are new, others antique, and new stock comes in every day. Check it out online at www.pinefinders.co.uk and let us know if you find anything you like.

Pinefinders, Thame Rd Industrial Est, Haddenham, Bucks HP17 8BZ. Tel: 01844 291231

Hi Louisa, you’re very welcome. I know Oving a little, looked at a house there once and have eaten in the Black Boy several times. Very pretty with excellent grass I’m sure! Dexter beef sounds great, I’ll come and say hi on the day. Hero x

Fabulous, Happy Belated Birthday by the way – looks like you had fun!!! It’s hubby’s 40th next month and we’ve hired Beaton’s Boudoir – he sets up his thing in the corner of the room and you and your friends are snapped away looking very silly using Carnival Style props – and then guests can download their images for free after the party – genius! http://www.beatonsboudoir.com – (p.s. this is NOT a sneaky promotion, I promise – he is genuinely very good)xxx

LOVE your gorgeous house Hero and now feel very much reassured that you also had random homeless garlic bulbs and hair bands too. Great tips that I’ll be using when planning events at The Hundred. Oh and happy belated birthday. xx

Thanks Pia. I just had a surveyor around who kept telling me how ‘unusual’ and ‘interesting’ my house was so I think you either get it or you don’t! I wanted to invite you to the party except I remembered that pubs are open on Friday nights too lol! x
