Words and Wickets at Wormsley 2013
Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Outdoors features here.
Sorry for the late notice, but thought I’d let you know quickly (if it’s not rained off) that today is your chance to watch the first ever cricket literary festival – yup, you read that right! – at the stunning private Wormsley cricket ground near Stokenchurch, Bucks.
The day includes a match between the Authors XI and the Actors XI, with sides featuring little known rookies such as, ooh, Damian Lewis, Sebastian Faulks, Sam Mendes and Tom Ward. I know, amazing!
While the game is unfolding, a series of events will take place in the main marquee, including panelists including Jonathan Wilson, George Dobell and Ben Macintyre discussing cricket and literature and the Ashes (oy, Muddy women, stop yawning!), plus some light comedy and other things that frankly only your boyfriends and husbands will be interested in.
Meanwhile, the stunning Getty Library will be open for visits over the course of the day and there will be nets for kids, and arts and crafts in a stay and play tent for children of all ages.
If you want to make a day of it, you can buy a Hamper for 2 (including entry) for £99. But if that seems a bit OTT, normal entry tickets are much more reasonable – £16.50 for adults (including a £10 food voucher), with under 16s free. Owzat?
