Crazy Bear, Beaconsfield

Muddy says: An antithesis to the blandness of many hotels, this OTT glam venue with restaurants, pool and terrace is eccentric, opulent and great fun.

If you’re looking for Farrow & Ball hues and understated elegance, Crazy Bear isn’t for you! The oldest documented building in the chi-chi, elegant old part of Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, this fifteenth century coaching inn was transformed in 2008 into a superglam, OTT experience of oversized chandliers, rococo-style chairs, sweeping bar surfaces and the kind of bedroom interiors that Hugh Heffner would have been happy to call home – think with copper roll top baths, padded ceilings and out-there colour schemes.

Rooms are in the main building and surrounding cottages and there’s also a ‘Tiny’ option (for two, with a wet room) across the road from the main building if you’re after the vibe but not the price point of the main hotel.

There are two dining rooms (English  and Thai), plus an outdoor eating terrace that surrounds an outdoor pool and jacussi that are available for hotel guests only.

The bar and restaurant are both available to non hotel guests, and if you want to use that pool, just sign up for one of the Crazy Bear pool parties – there are events a-plenty here, plus a special Crazy Bear membership if you really can’t stay away that also gives you access to the sister hotels in Stadhampton, Oxfordshire and Fitzrovia, London.
