Les Chapelles Holiday Gites
Muddy says: Quintessential renovated rural gites featuring all our favourite French vacay mainstays: vineyards, chateaux, beaches and boules. All an hour from Bordeaux.
Vineyards, chateaux, beaches and boules: everything we want from a French holiday is at Les Chapelles, a small hamlet in the Charente-Maritime department of France (it’s a little more than half way down the left-hand side if you’re looking at a map). The sun often shines – there’s actually only one region of France where it shines more – which means you get to laze on beautiful beaches less than half an hour’s drive away. Historic towns like Saintes, Royan, Cognac and La Rochelle provide a cultural and gastronomic hit and Bordeaux is an hour’s drive for the obligatory vino tour.
We love the space to roam among these two beautifully restored old gites; little Muddys can explore crumbing ancient outbuildings and acres of land with you. There’s boules, a paddock and playground, plus a swanky indoor pool, making this a close-to-perfect choice for a French Muddy family vacay.
