Red Lion Pub & Kitchen, Blewbury
A 17th century village Inn with three bedrooms set in delightful Downland village of Blewbury, near Didcot. The Red Lion Pub & Kitchen re-opened in March 2016, after a major refurbishment by new head chef/proprietor, Phil Wild and wife, Arden. Once the local for Kenneth Grahame, author of Wind in the Willows and thriller writer, Dick Francis, The Red Lion’s cosy bar, with log fire, serves three craft ales and numerous lagers and ciders, while the wine list of old and new world wines includes twelve white, twelve red, four rose, three champagne and two dessert wines served by the glass, carafe or bottle.
Three warm and welcoming, oak-beamed dining rooms and an extensive orchard garden offer relaxed spaces in which to sample Phil’s exceptional, good value seasonal menu of modern British dishes served by friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Phil’s long and illustrious career as a chef includes working in iconic British inns and hotels, having started his career at the Michelin-starred Carlton Elite Hotel in Switzerland, thirty years ago. As an enthusiastic and dedicated supporter of local suppliers, Phil fastidiously sources the best produce available including game from the local Well Barn Estate and daily fresh fish and seafood deliveries from a top Cornish supplier. ‘I’m a keen advocate of local businesses supporting one another to promote the amazing range of producers we have in this region,’ says Phil.
