Rossini’s Leathern Bottel

Muddy says: a classy Italian restaurant in a strikingly beautiful location on the Thame in Goring, with free mooring for diners.

Everyone loves a hidden gem and Rossini’s The Leathern Bottel, accessed down a long, winding road, is exactly that. Featured in the Sunday Times Food magazine and Waitrose Food magazine over the last year, this classy Italian restaurant sits on a perfect stretch of the Thames in Goring, one of South Oxfordshire’s prettiest villages.

Head chef Maurizio has his roots firmly in the Amalfi,  offering up Southern Italian fare such as Linguine all`aragosta and Pesce Spada Grigliato al ‘Salmoriglio’ (no need to get our your translation book, it’s grilled swordfish server with olive oil, garlic and mint!).

Word on the ground is that it’s family friendly – no problems to bring well-behaved kids here – and at six and a half miles from Wallingford Lock to the restaurant along this stretch of the Thames you can easily have a pootle around the river before or after your meal. In fact, they offer free overnight mooring for diners, and you can also hire an electric boat fitting 8 from the restaurant.

One final point for fact fans: Rossini at The Leatherne Bottel is owned by Chairman of Reading Football Club Sir John Madejski. Ooooh!
