The Dog & Badger
Muddy says: a slice of Soho style in a rural spot between Marlow and Henley, this restaurant with rooms is glitzy, grown-up and glamorous.
The Dog & Badger in Medmenham may sound like your typical country boozer but, believe us, it really isn’t. The showstopping curved, lacquered wood bar was once an Italian Riva speedboat, the walls are peppered with neon, kitsch modern art and there’s a cocktail list that even we’d struggle to make it through.
The six newly opened B&B rooms, in a separate 14th century outhouse, are equally glamorous – with their deliciously crispy bed linen, Nespresso machines and private steam rooms, they’re city boutique hotel standard. What’s more, the Modern British menu is uniformly excellent and comes courtesy of chef David Hawkins, previously of The Crown in Amersham and The White Oak in Cookham. Wash it all down with a choice of 450 wines.
