The Royal Oak

From the centre of Marlow take the short trip up the winding hill to Bovingdon Green and into the warm, wooden heart of the award winning The Royal Oak.

Bare floorboards and ancient timbers ooze bonhomie, it feels like someone’s home – it might as well be yours for the time you are there. Like old friends visiting for dinner, the welcome is easy and relaxed. It’s journey’s end.

Inside, the Oak’s organic interior reveals the nooks and crannies where intimacy is assured and larger tables are left to the limelight. You’ll find a snug with wood burning stove, a rosy red dining room and a well-stocked bar. Rich fabrics and heritage colours add to the warmth.

Beyond the paneled bar the gardens stretch back, and back – perfect for lazy summer afternoons watching the Red Kites soar overhead. Step through the gap in the hedge and there’s even a pentanque pitch tucked behind. With glass in hand and a menu to savour it’s a world away from the hustle and bustle of Thames-side.

Our menu ticks all the boxes – Classics and twists abound, bashed up with hints of far-flung places and the taste of Empire. From field to farm, hedgerow to forest, the sound of the sea and the thrill of the hunt, food is our passion. We move with the seasons and the daily Specials on the chalkboard speak of freshness and invention. What we bring to the table is fabulous food, constructed with care and packed with flavour.

Whether you’re booked for dinner or bagging a table on the off chance, you’re always welcome. Pop in for a drink or stay for Sunday lunch. Nobody leaves hungry or thirsty.
