Back to Drink

It’s time for Christmas cocktails!

It’s dark. It’s cold. We’re all in Tier 4 and we're under strict instructions not to leave the house. So, there’s only one thing for it: DRINK COCKTAILS.

We know, we know: after all the enforced in-house frivolity and pigs-in-blankets panic buying, it can difficult to drum up the energy to make fancy drinks too. But don’t panic: Bucks and Oxon’s cocktail superheroes are out in force to deliver mixologist-quality drinks to your door…

Claytons, Marlow

Claytons Marlow

Can you remember those things called ‘bars’ where you used to go up and order a drink? Yes, that’s right – made of wood with lots of bottles on the shelves. Well, if you’re keen to revive those fading memories, this might be a good way to do it. Claytons (the go-to bar in Marlow) has pivoted its offering and is now delivering bottles of its pre-mixed cocktails to addresses in the following postcodes: all HP postcodes plus SL6, SL7, SL8, SL9, RG9, RG10, OX9, OX39, OX49. So they’re prepared to cover some distance. On offer is 700ml bottles of Espresso Martini, It’s a London Thing (lemongrass and ginger martini), Rum Old Fashioned and its Marlow Negroni.

Doorstep Bartender, Marlow

Made-to-order cocktails are the name of the game here and delivery is nationwide, should you want to send drinks to friends and fam as a gift. The menu is pretty impressive too: upwards of 25 cocktails are available from Pineapple Honey Mai Tais to Peaches & Pears Margaritas. Seriously, how good do they sound? They come in either 250ml (two drinks) or 500ml (four drinks) bottles and delivery is free within a 15-mile radius of Marlow. Otherwise, the drinks will be shipped to your door via Royal Mail.

Over Oxford way? No bother: these are your guys, in that case. With loads of pre-mixed cocktails available (free UK shipping if you order six or more), you can have seasonal drinks such as Christmas in Queensland and Father Christmas’s Comfort or classics – Sapphire Martinis or a White Negronis are always on offer – delivered to your door. Plus, they’re currently donating 50p per bottle to the Oxford Food Bank so you can add a touch of benevolence to your order, which is always nice.

Crockers at Home

Henley’s newest place-to-be is offering parched customers the chance to sup on its stellar cocktails (and fudge and wine if you’re partial to that too). Presented in either 200ml or 500ml beautiful glass bottles, you can quaff Negronis, Martinis, Cosmopolitans. Some come in rather fetching gift sets with glasses from £20 or you can just go straight to the hard stuff and have three bottles sent to your door from £33. Delivery is £5 for up to £10 bottles and then free if you spend over £45.

Back to basics

Old Amersham Gin

Every domestic drinks cabinet needs a good bottle of gin. We say make it local as there are so many great gin distillers across Bucks & Oxon. Old Amersham Gin is one and there London Dry is delicious.

Tobias Oliver decanter

Decanters may remind you of your grandfather’s sideboard but they don’t have to be stuffy and old fashioned. Take a look at this one: sleek Scandi design that’s just made to be shown off.

Keep it cool

Whiskey beaker

These whisky tumblers from the Robbe & Berking “Dante” Bar Collection are silver for a reason; the conductivity of the metal ensures that if you wish you warm up your scotch, just hold it in your palm to release the aromas. Alternatively, drop in some ice and the silver will keep the drink cooler for longer.
