10 hot new local foodie openings to know in 2022
Feeling hungry? From cool new supper clubs and gin bars to restaurant rebrands and destination pubs - here are the places you're going to want to book a table at when they open.
Elle’s Deli, East Oxford
After almost 10 years of serving incredible Thai food (rated by the Michelin guide, no less) from its bijoux Magdalen Road restaurant, Oli’s Thai will be closing its doors this Feb – but it’s not all bad news! The owners are converting the space into Elle’s Deli, opening Apr/May, which will sell tasty produce as well as running monthly Oli’s Thai supper clubs.
The Gin to my Tonic, Faringdon
New bar klaxon! Not only do we adore the name of this bar, but it’s got its own spirit, Folly Gin, with the town’s quirky tower as its namesake. On offer are hundreds of gins, whiskies, vodkas, low and no-alcohol spirits and well as pizza (Wed-Sun), bottomless gin brunch and afternoon G&Tea with scones, finger sandwiches and cake. Pinkies out, darlings!
WYLD, Milton Keynes
Brand new supper club venture WYLD will be bringing its outdoor dining experiences to Milton Keynes from March. With a strong focus on sustainability and connecting with nature, WYLD promises ‘a sustainable solution for conscious carnivores’ with the menu centred around local WYLD venison (don’t worry veggies, there are plant-based options too). Hosted in a secret location in south MK, all dishes will be cooked outside over an open fire and eaten on tables built by hand from wind blown timber and coppiced wood from local woodland management.
215 Kitchen & Drinks, Summertown
After four years, one Michelin star and 3 AA Rosettes, it’s time for a new direction for 215 Kitchen & Drinks which will be relaunching in Feb as a contemporary bistro as well as a fine food delicatessen – the restaurant has always been huge on the Oxford foodie scene so Muddy is excited to see what’s in store for the restaurant next!
Laurants Deli, Marlow
Laurents deli – which has stores in Paddington, St John’s Wood and Chiswick – is set to open its first outpost outside of London in Marlow this March. Expect a range of fresh produce and patisserie sourced from French and Italian artisans as well as excellent coffee. Espresso and croissant to go, please!
The Joiners Arms, Bloxham
Opening in Feb (and taking bookings soon), this historic 16th century, Grade II listed pub has recently undergone a refurbishment (from the same team behind Eynsham’s The Evenlode) to showcase the building’s original features, patio and hidden garden, as well as the addition of a stunning new dog-friendly orangery restaurant. There’ll be a focus on local, seasonal produce on the menu of refined pub classics and Sunday roasts.
The Fox, Boars Hill
Looking for a new destination pub to add to your hitlist? This Oxfordshire country pub (think nooks and crannies galore and stunning bucolic views) has just been taken over by the owners of chic city pub The Plough at 38 in Oxford and is set to open in spring after a full refurbishment. New plans include a focus on game meat (veggies/vegans are covered too, of course) as well as an outdoor pizza oven to enjoy a slice with a view on the terrace. Dogs are welcome too.
‘New York deli meets Italian finesse’ at this new restaurant and wine bar opening at Botley’s West Way Square development in Feb, adding to Botley’s growing indie scene. By day, Pappo will serve breakfast and lunch with an in-house bakery, artisan coffee, and cakes from local business NOOD, whilst at night the space will turn into a restaurant focused on locally-sourced ingredients with an extensive wine and fizz list.
Muddy’s favourite bakery chain may already have spots in Summertown (pictured), Jericho and Beaconsfield, but it looks like GAIL’s is aiming for another Bucks location as the company has just submitted planning permission to take over the old Halifax bank on the High Street. Watch this space!
Kobe Steakhouse & Cocktail Lounge, Milton Keynes
Carnivores rejoice! A new independent steakhouse is moving into Xscape in MK this year – no news on an open date yet but we’ve heard that there’ll be Kobe and Wagyu beef on the menu, as well as cocktails to boot.
