Head to Coppa Club
Where to take 17 exacting Muddy Stilettos editors for lunch in London? Oh hello Coppa Club and your stupendous riverside views!
Where to book for lunch when you have 17 of the country’s most exacting lifestyle bloggers to please?
The twice-yearly Muddy editors lunch is a typically louche, tipsy affair. The Swan at Tetworth over Christmas was very naughty, but I think we pushed the boat out at the rather glamorous cabanas at Coppa Club at Tower Hill.
You may already know Coppa Club from Sonning, Berkshire – I reviewed when it launched in 2015 and spent that afternoon idly catapulting my knickers over to George Clooney’s residence across the road.
There are four Coppa Clubs actually (Oxford St, St Paul’s, Tower Bridge and Sonning), all of whom offer the same, urbane ethos of affordable, accessible food in stylish surroundings. The Tower Bridge club has supercool views of Tower Bridge behind it, so you’re basically right on the river, all under rather lovely faux wisteria, some funky downlighters and outdoor heaters.
The Muddy team went to the Coppa Club with the intention of eating and drinking the house dry, so we started with cocktails and nibbles, then mains (amazing btw), desserts, more cocktails, more cocktails and then inside for wine (just to shock you) and a change of scene, and what a scene! Banquettes, art deco this, that and everything, oversized brass lighting and cosy little alcoves for drunken escapades.
The position of Coppa Club right on the promenade towards Tower Bridge lends the place a more commercial, touristy air than its Sonning cousin – it feels bigger, brasher, a bit more glamorous. Having said that, you’d be fine to take kids and large family parties here too, so if you’re thinking of going to the Tower of London en masse, or looking for a fun place to meet for cocktails with the girls, book in, drink up, and nosh out.
