Muddy eats: Native Feasts pop up, LASSCO Three Pigeons
A quickie just to let you know that on Saturday night I went to the ‘tester’ night for Native Feasts, the pop up supper club that officially starts this weekend (Fri & Sat 5-6 March), a collaboration between LASSCO Three Pigeons in Milton Common, Michelin chef Chris Godfrey (above right) and maitre d’ Greg Jones (centre).
The good news is that it was very, very good and well worth getting on the blower to book in over this month. I think the majority of the tickets have already gone, so I’d suggest you shimmy doublequick if you want to try it out.
LASSCO in all its architectural salvage glory looks fabulous with candles and fairy lights, and the three tables of twelve all felt like three connected private dining areas – if you book a table with mates it’s a lovely way to have the best of both worlds, the sociability of a restaurant but with your own space.
Get there early enough to have a drink and a mooch around LASSCO from 7pm. I skidded in at 7.50pm, with 10 minutes to go before dinner (warning: serving is prompt so don’t attempt to be fashionably late), so I managed just a quick rhubarb champagne – well, why not?! – before we sat down to eat. I didn’t know man people on my table, so it was a bit awkward to take loads of photos, so I’ve nicked these pics from Native Feasts who had their own photographer there on the night. Needs must!
The food was excellent as you’d expect – lovely sharing chicken platters to start, a beetroot and lentil salad with pomegranate dressing. Then English Buffalo mozzarella, blood orange and radicchio, and for mains
Tamworth pulled pork loin with honey-roasted carrots.
To top it off, whisky caramel tart with malted milk ice cream. The menu changes every few weeks ago so make sure you look at the website and choose the right menu for you.
What else should you know? It’s £35 a head, plus drinks on top, so depending on your propensity to booze it up, you’re perhaps looking at around £55 for the night – good value I think for something a bit different.
