Pompette, North Oxford
Ooh la la! This excellent French restaurant offers a small yet perfectly formed takeaway menu Wed – Sat with the brilliant option to order dishes for more than one person at a reduced price. Every meal is cooked by chef Pascal but you’ll need to reheat and add the finishing bits at home (don’t worry, dishes come with detailed instructions!). You can also order a brilliant BBQ box for 2 – 4 people filled with pre-prepared, marinated meats. You must place your order by the Saturday before your meal.
Poshest Indian takeaway ever? We think so! Michelin starred chef Atul Kochhar’s 2 AA Rosette restaurant has an excellent selection of Pan Indian dishes to order individually or there’s a two person set menu on offer for £60. Bubble & Café Bar (run by winners of two Great Taste Awards and BBC2’s Million Pound Menu), which have a residency at the restaurant, also have a takeaway lunch menu. Food can be collected or delivered locally (it’s £3.50 within 5 miles).
Crockers Henley, Henley
Crockers Henley, a fine-dining restaurant without the stuffiness, was due to open early spring (we can’t wait – there are two Chef’s Tables to watch you food cooked live!) so has instead launched a premium grill and Pan Asian takeaway service to give us a taste of what’s to come. On offer are freshly cooked or frozen meals, plus a curated selection of wines and mix at home cocktails (we’ve got our eye on the Popcorn Daquari). The service runs Thurs – Sat at lunch and dinner, plus a Sunday Lunch offering. Prices range from £14 for a burger or salad to £40 for a sushi sharing board. Call 07398 210769 to order and book your collection slot.
Oli’s Thai, Oxford
Undoubtedly one of the best Thai places in Oxfordshire (it’s got a Michelin Bib Gourmand to prove it) this tiny restaurant packs big flavour dishes and offers curated takeaway menu, released on Instagram each week. Head’s up – tables here are like gold dust so no doubt the takeaway slots fill up quick. Collection Wed – Fri. Its sister restaurant Arbequina also offers a tasty tapas takeaway (try saying that 10 times over) available Thurs – Sat.
La Table d’Alix, Great Haseley
La Table d’Alix at The Plough in Great Haseley (the same team who were previously at The Swan at Tetsworth) has a totally indulgent French takeaway menu with an excellent wine list, available Wed – Sun. Dishes are served cold for you to heat up at home, but nothing takes more than 15 mins so just pop the oven on to warm whilst you go and collect the goods. Wildly popular locally – reports are excellent.
215 Kitchen & Drinks, North Oxford
The Oxford Kitchen (the city’s only Michelin starred restaurant), under chef Paul Welburn, realised early in lockdown that would have to pivot to survive so now it has a new name – 215 Kitchen & Drinks – a less rarefied menu (it now describes itself as a ‘contemporary neighbourhood restaurant’) and takeaway. At £20 per person for two courses or £25 for three, with wine and cocktails as add-ons, it’s brilliant value and apart from the slight faff of having to warm up bits and bobs on the hob or oven – no way around that unless you want food congealed by the time it gets to you – it’s a fun way to enjoy superior food in a home setting. The Grocer Shops, Amersham
Anything with wine gets our vote! On Fri & Sat The Grocer offers a Wine & Dine menu for excellent value (from £32.50 for two including wine, or £39.50 if you want to add dessert). The menu changes weekly but you can expect dishes like slow cooked beef, burrata, minted garden peas, green chicken curry – all made with super-fresh ingredients. Magdalen Arms, Oxford
This popular gastropub (which holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand) is offering a limited menu, cocktails and wine for collection Fri – Sun. Date night plans? Each main course serves at least two people with options including homemade pasta, steak and ale pie, or go large with a family-sized slow cooked lamb for £70. Meals have to be reheated at home.
The Hind’s Head At Home, Bray
Heston’s Michelin star gastropub The Hind’s Head is offering not one but two tasting menus (£45pp), plus a BBQ box (£70 for two). The menu changes weekly and you can expect to see Hind’s Head classics with minimal effort your end. Most of the dishes are ready to serve, one or two need a bit of cooking or a sprinkling of something on top. The menu comes with instructions and you can order extra sides, pre-made Royal Lounge cocktails, beer and wine from the Fat Duck cellar. It’s just over the Berks border but totally worth the trip.
