Half-price grub at The Crown!
Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Restaurants features here.
Rats… I had hoped to tell you about a new restaurant I was trying this weekend in Oxfordshire, but a road block stopped me from getting there and I ended up back in Bucks at The Crown in Cuddington. Some of you will know it well, but for those who don’t, it’s a well-loved thatched pub/restaurant, warm and quirky inside, lots of character and wooden beams and loyal locals, with above average food and wine. I used to go a lot but felt it had gone off the boil a bit in the last year.
Anyway, I bring glad tidings. Firstly, the food and service last night were great, and the pub was full. But even better, in these financially buttock-clenching times, there’s a great offer about to start…
From February 1st-March 31st, excluding Valentine’s Day and Sat nights, The Crown and its sister restaurant Annie Baileys in Great Missenden will give 2 for 1 meals on a la carte main courses for parties up to 8, so go with your friends and you could save around £50 off the tab. Just pick up a flier from The Crown or Annie Baileys and hand it in as you arrive. It’s valid once in each restaurant. I haven’t been to Annie Baileys myself so if anyone has eaten there – go on! – use the comment button below and let us know what you think of it.
I’ll try to make it to the Oxfordshire restaurant this week, but in the meantime here’s my round-up of The Crown…
Best for: relaxed dinners or superior pub lunches with friends. Staff are friendly and helpful, and kids are welcome.
Beware: Tables are generally close together, so it’s bit of a squeeze for buggies. Also, with no outdoor space other than the car park, there’s nowhere to throw your kids when you tire of them flicking peas across the table (or is that just me?)
££ Pretty good value. Most mains hover beween £12-15. We had a lovely Australian shiraz for £18.
