Summer season hits Westgate’s Roof Terrace
The Roof Terrace at Westgate, Oxford has launched for Summer - and looky what you can get up to amongst the spires!
While him indoors took my daughter and two giggly mates off to the Women’s FA Cup Final, I legged it to the official launch weekend of the Roof Terrace at Westgate Oxford with my youngest son.
Having gone to Victors on its press night and got rollickingly drunk (and launched editorial assistant Sophie as a viral phenomenon – check out her moves!) my trip in the day was a reminder that actually the Roof Terrace is very family friendly. Yes, there were hipsters aplenty hogging the sunshine terrace at Victors and Joho Soho (the groovy pop up street food terracey bit at Cinnamon Kitchen), but my young date and I managed some primo outdoor seats at Dirty Bones – I’m in love with the Sixties/Seventies interiors there (and, er, just in case you’re there sans enfants, it’s £5 for signature cocktails Monday to Friday from 3-7pm!)
A chicken waffle later, we ambled around to watch some children’s entertainment on the ‘quad’, had a quick whizz around the shops – in a word back to my favourite new store House, the Australian cookware specialist and then to Blackwell’s where I have to say the service was AWESOME for my young Alex Rider fanatic…
…. before we ascended again for Avengers: Infinity War at The Curzon and a lovely squidgy reclinable seat.
Whichever side of the fence you sit with regards the Westgate and its benefit to Oxford (personally I think it was massively needed – I’m now in Oxford much more than I used to be), there’s no doubt that the rooftop is a superbuzzy place to hang out, especially when the sun is shining.
Looking for somewhere to eat? I can personally recommend Pizza Pilgrims, Cinnamon Kitchen, Dirty Bones and Victors (what a cochon I am, I’ve eaten in them all!), and associate ed Kerry loved the Vietnamese Pho. I’m trying Sticks N Sushi next week so I’ll feed back on that soon. Pretty hard to go wrong up on that roof terrace for eats and meets really, they’re all great.
As always please let me know if you try anywhere I recommend – I love to hear your feedback and as I never tire of saying (meh, sue me), knowledge is power!
