Nellie & Dove

There's a new fashion kid on the block and she's creating quite the stir. Seriously check out this boutique, you're going to L.O.V.E it.

Ever been to Deddington? This pretty Cotswold-stoned North Oxfordshire village seems to have taken a large dose of something funky of late – trendy shops have been popping up, formerly so-so pubs have improved their game and I get the Muddy ‘tingles’ every time I come through (seriously, I trust my tingles).

One of the most exciting additions is Nellie & Dove in the centre of the village. It only opened a few months back but it’s making a massive impression (it’s already been voted into this year’s Muddy Awards Finals) and no wonder – it’s one of the most stylish boutiques I’ve come across outside London. Katie who works with me on Muddy walked out with a fantastic jumpsuit and I’m off up there specially this week to find a party frock. Seriously, it’s that good.

My camera pretty much fell in love with the place and it can explain a lot better than me so take a gander at these pics.

Racks and racks of beautiful clothes

Owner Helen (Nellie) and her partner ‘Dove’ have extraordinary good taste in clothes, are definitely on the trendier side of Planet Fashion and importantly they’re not peddling the same labels as the other fashion boutiques in Bucks & Oxon, instead searching out top international emerging talent such Xu Zhi – Nellie & Dove is the only store outside Dover St Market in London to stock this Armani-sponsored talent.

And the way they think about fashion is inventive – every few weeks they lure top talent such as Donna Ida into the store to meet and inspire customers. This Friday (6-9pm) it’s the very cool Florence Bridge, whose digitally printed silks, patchwork leather and shearling textures are 100% manufactured in the UK and who will be showing how she creates her beautiful paintings that are then digitally printed on to silk, before being made up to her clothes designs. Pretty cool, huh?

There’s also been a lot of thought in terms of design – I love the curved fitting rooms, bauble downlighters, velvet seating and fun touches like the record player and vinyl collection, that clients (or more likely bored husbands) can change as they wish.

There’s even a customer toilet on the ground floor for crissakes, they’ve thought of everything!

Nellie & Dove is currently on the first floor above the village hat shop, but next year they’ll be taking over the ground floor too and starting a menswear collection, and there’s definitely a sense of a strong vision that they’re seeing through. Prices are mid-range I’d say – plenty that won’t break the budget (the accessories are keenly priced and include Tattie Devine) and the occasional jaw-dropping piece that you’ll have to save for.

The Tattie Devine box of fun – I love it all

Definitely, absolutely, humungously worth a detour to check it out (it’s about 15 minutes from Soho Farmhouse, 20 minutes from Chipping Norton, 15 minutes from Banbury to give you an idea of location), and if you can’t get there, you can surf the goodies online.  And go on, send me a pic of your new clobber if you purchase.

Nellie & Dove, Market Place, Deddington, Oxfordshire OX15 0SE. Tel: 01869 336972. Opening Hours Mon-Sat 9:30-6pm; Late night Friday 8pm; Sunday by appointment.
