Festive fashion, sorted!
Party season is fast approaching, yippee! But, what to wear? You could cover yourself in Superglue and jump in a giant vat of sequins. Or you could read on for our edit of the best partywear, featuring twinkly little numbers from your high street faves.
Jigsaw is on fire it at the moment – if you haven’t shopped there for a while, do take a peek. I’ve got my eye on this slick midnight blue velvet tux jacket with satin lapels. Throw over an LBD or jumpsuit and you’re good to go.
Oh yeah, indeed! If you take this kitsch glass beaded clutch bag for a night out on the razz and don’t have fun, there’s no hope for you, frankly. It’s by Aussie brand From St Xavier, via John Lewis.
The problem with a lot of party dresses is that they’re (a) ridiculously revealing and (b) aimed squarely at 17-year-olds. But say hello to this grown-up LBD (with sleeves – always a bonus) from & Other Stories (£79). The slinky gold lurex stripe detail stops it from being too demure.
Bored of LBDs? Then you need an LBJ. No, not an ex-US President, rather a kick-ass jumpsuit. I’m coveting this one from Boden, with trim detailing in the fabric of the moment, velvet. And it also comes in petite sizing – great news if you’re a shortie like me and can never find one to fit. Just add spangly accessories.
If your festive style is more low-key than Christmas tree, can I introduce you to these Hush silver boots. They’ll jolly up the most basic jeans and jumper combo with minimal effort. Plus you’ll look a bit like David Bowie and that’s always a good thing.
How nonchalantly sexy is this little number? I’d wear this black sequin Whistles pencil skirt with a lightweight black knit or crisp white shirt, plus a black stiletto.
If you’re buying a party coat, go faux fur. I’ve got two fluffy ones which I’ve worn for years – they never fall out of fashion and they keep me warm on a late-night stumble home. This H&M one is a pretty, vintagey shade of blue and a total bargain
Sometimes you've gotta go big or go home - and you're not going home, love, I've just ordered another round of cocktails. Warehouse is partywear Mecca this season - my pick is this razzle-dazzle rainbow sequin dress. No one's going to put Baby in the corner when you're wearing this little number.
A disco cardigan – yes, really. Cardigans are very much back (see Gucci for details) and you can even wear them on the dancefloor. This Monsoon black one with a smattering of silver sequins will warm up a skimpy dress or work with a camisole, jeans and ankle boots for a more casual do.
Boring plain coat? Drafty neckline? Check out veteran Devon brand Helen Moore's slinky faux fur collars and tippets. They're well-priced - this monochrome one will keep you cosy en route and look a lot more glam than your workaday woolly scarf.
