Nautical but nice
Stars and stripes in perfect harmony? Meet my très sexy favourite new Breton cashmere top, ooh-la-la!
The Breton top – ah, let me count the ways that je t’aime. It may not be at the forefront of SS18 trends, spotted front row at London Fashion Week or likely to grace the cover of Vogue but quite frankly if you want me stop wearing these chic, stripy tops, you’ll have to prise them from my cold dead hands. I’d go as far as to say the Breton has become a bonafide wardrobe classic, filed alongside the trenchcoat, white shirt and black ankle boot.
Et voilà, the current object of my affections: this cute and cosy number by cashmere whizzes Wyse London (£198 from the-Bias-Cut.com). It comes in trad cream with navy stripes (or mid-grey with cream stripes) but with snazzy wrist detailing in the shape of little neon pink and yellow stars. Who says Bretons are boring, eh?
And I know, I know £200 sounds steep for a sweater but my new year’s fashion resolution is to invest in the pieces I wear the most and scrimp on occasion wear (I’m so over splurging on LBDs I wear twice a year). Given this is the kind of useful piece that you won’t take off until July, consider that permission to reach for the credit card. Enabler, moi?
