Westgate Oxford: your one-stop summer shop
Need kitting out for summer? Westgate Oxford has all bases covered from sartorial stunners to seaside gear and beach beauty. Face masks at the ready, let's go!
Best for BEACH GEAR
Planning a coastal jaunt? (Psst, try our Cornwall and Devon insider guides for staycation inspo). We’ll be heading straight to John Lewis, which re-opened last week, to pick up beach essentials like this funky fast-dry Dock & Bay Sway towel (above), ideal for ocean dips or sunbathing on the sand. This bright bucket-style cool bag and playful watermelon beach ball will also be added straight to basket.
Best for SUMMER STYLE
For womenswear Mango is right on the money (plus, the whole store is basically on sale at the moment). We’re going googly-eyed over this gorgeous long striped dress with tie-up shoulders (above). Or, head down the escalator to Oliver Bonas for floaty skirts with quirky prints – our favourite is this new-in midi in quirky coloured animal print. For staple summer bits, the whole family can find something in Uniqlo. For Mr M, we love this super-cool Japanese take on a Hawaiian shirt and for kids, these versatile denim shorts, perfect for frolicking on the beach.
Best for SANDALS
We’re making a beeline straight to Mint Velvet on the bottom floor to treat our feet. These chunky sliders, in soft navy suede or dusky pink, will look lovely slung on with a causal pair of denim cut-offs, plus extra points for the comfort factor. For a dressier option, the bright orange tone and chunky wedge on these espadrilles (above) is a winning combo. Another fantastic option is Russell & Bromley, also on the lower floor (follow the one-way system to get there) where we’re coveting a pair of these metallic nappa leather thong flats to add a little glam to our summer wardrobe.
Best for SWIMWEAR
For sports and swimwear, H&M is always a dead cert and excellent value. Channel Brigitte Bardot in this supportive balconette bikini with matching high-waisted briefs in retro stripes, or for something of the itsy-bitsy variety (you go, girl), we’re loving the simple silhouette on this trendy rose gold number, above. Cover up with this pretty white and pink broderie kaftan from Next for ultimate beach chic (and to show off that tan). While you’re browsing, pick up some trunks for your other half – our favourites are this fun toucan print pair or the subtle leaf print on this green option.
Best for BEAUTY
Superdrug is the popular choice for picking up your summer skincare essentials on a budget (don’t worry, there’s a queuing system to ensure safe shopping and social distancing). We’re fans of Revolution’s Hyaluronic Essence Spray for hydrating parched skin, plus Superdrug’s own brand B. for little makeup treats like this liquid blush in Apricot. Looking to splurge? Head to our go-to Too Faced (on the top floor, next to JD). This Sunny Bunny Bronzer (above) is perfect for getting that glow even after the sun’s disappeared.
Best for ACCESSORIES
& Other Stories has a super-reasonable range of sunglasses under £30 like these angular tortoiseshell cat eyes (above) and this sleek round pair. A decent hat is a summer essential and can really elevate an outfit.and the store also has a great selection of woven beauties on offer like this wide brimmed hat with sloped back to protect you from the sun in style, or this smart Hamptons-esque number with printed scarf detail.
Best for SUMMER SCENTS
If you’re on a budget, or looking for a travel-sized bottle to take on your staycation, Zara is a no-brainer with a brilliant selection of scents at an excellent price point. Satiate your wanderlust with its range of Nathalie Lorson scents (the brains behind Flora by Gucci, Kate Moss’ perfume and Gucci Première) including A Sweet Pastry in Paris and A Book Liaison in Lisbon. Or, if you’re sticking to big name brands, The Fragrance Shop (nestled next to Pret on the upper floor), currently has a huge up-to-70%-off summer sale which includes Marc Jacobs Daisy Love and Paco Pabanne Invictus for men.
