Carl Leighton-Pope: His Favourite Places

Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Fave Places features here.

Carl Leighton-Pope is one of the country’s leading music managers and producers, guiding the careers of Bryan Adams, Keith Urban and Michael Buble. His musical ‘Carnaby St’ moves to the Wycombe Swan from 16-20 April. Tickets

Here are his favourite places.

Cookham, Bucks

I’ve lived in the same house in Cookham for 30 years and just love it here.
We happened to buy opposite a floodbank so we have 60m of riverfrontage and
the most glorious view as no-one can build opposite us, we’re incredibly lucky. I don’t tend to invite clients back to the house – I think Bryan Adams has been once but I like to keep work and home separate if I can. I’m usually happiest with some friends, a BBQ, a glass off wine and some Miles Davis on in the background. We’re just rebuilding the house now so I think I’ll be here till I die!

The River Thames

Temple bridge

We have a boat and we love taking it through the villages: Marlow, Bourne
End, Henley, just cruising around and eating and drinking. I think the River
is underestimated generally. I find it really relaxing and it’s a beautiful
way to see the English countryside.

The Cookham Tandoori

I love Indian food, so much so that the local restaurant did the catering
for our wedding. This place is an institution in the village, I’m a big fan.

The Ivy

The-Ivy-restaurant-in-the-007We love the social side of London and spend a lot of our time eating our way
through the various restaurants. It’s a bit of a cliche in my business I
suppose but I like The Ivy and The Groucho Club. We enjoy the theatre too, I
have to keep up with what’s going on. We saw the new musical The Book of
Mormon last week which was brilliant.

Fish and chips in Wembley

I’m totally obsessed with fish and chips; I saw that Heston Blumenthal programme on TV about how to make the perfect batter and I couldn’t take my eyes off it! I spend a lot of my time trying to discover new places. I’ve got a lead on a great place in Wembley that I’m going to try soon. I’ve eaten at some amazing restaurants but really, you can’t beat fish and chips, can you?
