New season, new skincare regime!
Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Beauty features here.
Did you take more care of your skin in summer? Uncharacteristically, I did. I slapped on a higher UV, bought some Michael Jackson-esque exfoliator gloves, and started moisturing places that hadn’t had the love for months. But now that we’re into Autumn and busy busy with work or kids, all that TLC seems to have gonee out of the window again *sigh*.
I’m the last person who can be bothered with a massive beauty routine, but even I can see that if I don’t do the basics my skin is going to be in big trouble over winter – already my legs look like dry mosaics, artistic yes, attractive, no. I’ve met France, owner of the Cannelle salons in Summertown Oxford and Henley a couple of times and apart from looking about ten years younger than she is (grrr), she’s absolutely up to date with the latest tricks to keep skin in shape, so here are her Top Tips for keeping skin healthy and beauty tricks current into Autumn.
Re-evaluate your moisturiser
Colder weather, central heating and windy days all contribute to dryer, more sensitive skin. It might seem like an indulgence, but always re-evaluate what moisturizer you use running up to winter. I’d especially recommend essential oils with a calming hydrating effect – Decleor’s skincare range is based around the award winning combination of Aromessences (serums with blended essential oils) with creams.
Dark reds are an autumn staple and look great on shorter nails, but if you prefer to be a little different, off piste blues and greys seem to be making an appearance in this year’s Autumnal polish racks. Ensure you choose a blue with a cloudy, grey tinge or go for navy – otherwise you risk looking like you have borrowed your 5 year old daughter’s candy blue varnish.
Post-summer, it’s essential for to exfoliate for healthy glowing skin. Once a month invest in an all over body scrub (including facial exfoliation) and if you can, get a professional to do it who can ensure all those hard to reach places are covered. Plus a full body exfoliation doubles up as a nice massage so you get two treatments in one!
Keep make up subtle
Autumn is a great season to experiment with getting a natural look using charcoal greys, blending browns and using subtle mascara to give you an edge without trying to be too edgy if you know what I mean! Metallics are big this season but I would advise wearing a teal metallic shadow rather than high glitter greys for daytime.
Prepare for next summer!
It may feel a bit early to think about this, but Autumn is the best time to invest in permanent hair removal. Our new Soprano ICE machine is one of the fastest, most effective machines on the market. Treatment times are rapid, all skin colours and hair types can be treated and typically just 6-8 treatments are needed for complete removal – each treatment 6 weeks apart. Which means by Spring 2015 you could have legs, underarms, bikini, back, upper lip – whatever area you choose – hair free forever. Happy days!
