Supercool local interiors stuff *squeak* !
Wonderful though it is living in these ‘ere parts, the one area that can be under-represented is the cooler end of contemporary interiors. Sometimes it takes a company a little toe dipped in unchartered waters to have their whole foot bitten off by demand. That’s what’s happened with Secret Messages Emporium in Buckingham, whose take on modern and mid-century furniture and gifts has gained a massive following in less than a year.
Zipping around the area last week, I popped in to see the latest stock and it’s now much more interiors than emporium – stylish one-off pieces like a beautifully-renovated McIntosh mid-century sideboard, retro-inspired copper downlights, and loads of other really cool stuff that I want so badly for my house that I’m tempted to sell Mr Muddy to raise the funds.
It’s a very creative space, with a large dose of quirkiness – the banisters made from old wooden skis (below left) and the sense that you might find a retro classic around every corner.
The Secret Messages website is down for the next few weeks, so if this has piqued your interest you’ll have to check it out in person, or if you’re too far away from Buckingham I’ll let you know when it all goes live again and you can surf from the comfort of your own soon-to-be superstylish home.
