Where’s the best place to live in Bucks & Oxon?
The Sunday Times has revealed its top spots to live in 2020 - but did your hometown make the cut?
It looks like we’ll all be spending plenty of time at home at the moment, so what better time to appreciate where you’re living (or, alternatively, start dreamily house-hunting on Rightmove)? The Sunday Times has just released its annual round-up of the best spots in the country to lay your hat – its Best Places to Live Guide 2020, takes into account house prices, air quality, good schools and access to green spaces, as well as community spirit – we can all use a spade load of that right now!
Altrincham in Greater Manchester took national top spot (pah!), but two our local towns – Amersham in Bucks and Wallingford in Oxon – made it onto the the Best of the South East list. Bravo!
Amersham won major points for its excellent commuting opps, but the pretty Old Town means that it’s not just a transport hotspot. Upscale eatery Artichoke got a shout-out, as did previous Muddy Award winner The Grocer and its sister, the Green Grocer and indie coffee hangouts Sycamore and Jacs. Top drinking spots included Beech House, which was commended for its cocktails, and the Mad Squirrel Brewery’s lively taproom.
Down in South Oxfordshire, Wallingford’s relaxed community vibe and endless list of annual events, outdoor entertainment and festivals sent them into the commended category. Local restaurants Shellfish Cow, Italian Avanti and the Old Post Office also scored highly.
If you’re not in one of these two towns for the foreseeable (let’s not even guess what month we’ll be allowed our of own homes), take a look at who else made the cut in our area.
