Oooh, hello David Lloyd summer courses!

Trying to find something sporty for your kids this summer? The family-friendly uber-gym has multisport camps (and no need to be a member!)

OK, this is a bit of a newsflash in case you’re struggling to find something sporty to do with your kids this summer. I know that lots of private gyms offer kids courses over half term and summer, but it’s just reached my Muddy ear that David Lloyd gym in Oxford is running a whopper kids program this summer, and – guess what – you don’t actually have to be a member to boot your kids in there!  That, my friends, is awesome news, because David Lloyd is super family-friendly and kid-smart, with some of the best gym facilities in Oxfordshire.

I’ve already booked my kids in – I’m totally sold on it – but just so you know, you can drop your kids from 8.30 (for a 9am start) and pick them up at 6pm (the course finishes at 5pm but they can do a free session in the kids area until you deign to return).

The tennis facilities are brilliant here as you’d expect with indoor and outdoor courts, and every day on the course kids can channel their inner Murray or Konta, plus play a mixture of football, cricket, swimming (unlike most private clubs I’ve come across locally it’s a 25 metre job) rugby, arts and crafts, free play and playground games.

If you’re lucky enough to be a member, you can also work in the café, dip in for a swim or work out (or, um, have another coffee), and smile in the knowledge that your kids are nowhere near technology for the entire day.

Member or not, if you’re shaking your head at the perceived expense of the DL kids club … mais non! Deliciously, a half day for non-members is £35, or a full day is £42 (members, you can feel smug – it’s only £28 or £19.20 for you!). Or it’s £168 for the week for non-members (£140 for members).

The café. I’m planning to make it my home for the next few weeks!

The summer camps are only for 5-11 year olds, so for those in 12-15 Grunt Years (trust me, it’s a thing), you’ll have to be a member for your 12+ to access the pool independently and also use the gym and even do some classes under supervision.

I’m bringing out a headline list of best summer courses tomorrow but couldn’t wait on this one as I reckon it’s going to get booked out mega quick. Limber up with me in the café for some serious flat white lifting reps.
