Waterperry Gardens Great Pumpkin Hunt
Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Kids Activities features here.
Just a quick post as I was up at Waterperry Gardens yesterday morning in the drizzle, doing the Great Pumpkin Hunt with my kids.
Waterperry (near Wheatley and about 20 minutes south of Oxford), does a variation on the same theme depending on the time of year – I think last time I went was for the Easter bunny hunt. Anyway, it’s all gloriously lo-tech, in this case looking around the gardens with a map that even the gardeners couldn’t work out, trying to find 10 pumpkins with smiley faces put on them, perched in trees and hedges.
But this is the glory of children and the simple beauty of the gardens because with some stickers to put on a map and a promise of a treat at the end, they loved it, and I loved it too – the gardens take in a maze, rose and walled garden, fruit trees and loads else besides, it’s so very pretty, and we spent a good hour walking around, all topped off with a bat chocolate cookie in the cafe afterwards.
If gardens don’t float your boat, check out the bumper half-term Muddy Guide – it will see you through to the end of the week!
£2 per child and £6.50 entrance to the garden for adults. waterperrygardens.co.uk
