Half Term: Spooky Stonor Park for kids

A spooky outdoor treasure trail, pumpkin carving and stone-baked Halloween pizzas? Mini Muddies will be screaming for all the right reasons thanks to Stonor Park's half term offering

Stonor Park

The imaginative playground of Tumblestone Hollow in Henley’s Stonor Park has been a godsend for parents of younger children since it opened earlier this year (trust us, kids LOVE it), so if you’re yet to go you might be interested to know that it’s all spooked and pumpkinned up and ready for Half Term.

To celebrate the brand new book launch by best-selling author Amy Sparkes The Moon Witch And The Thief (out later this year), Stonor Park has launched a brand new Halloween event that runs from 20 to 31 October – so of course Muddy has already hopped on the closest broomstick to go and have a nose.

Both the Tumblestone Hollow playground and Stonor Park gardens have had a seasonal makeover, with hanging ghosts and sparkling pumpkins galore. The garden is home to a simple but spooky trail, with clues for littles to add to a crossword and a prize at the end (hint – it may or may not be chocolate). Just be sure to pack your wellies for striding across Stonor’s grassier stretches.

The playground itself is already the stuff of autumn dreams, all wonky wood and rustling leaves, but it’s been peppered with pumpkins for full effect, and there’s now a tipi witch’s tent where you can take shelter from any inclement weather and listen to a sneak preview of Amy Sparkes’s new book.

Tumblestone Hollow

Once your horde has worked up a suitable appetite on Tumblestone Hollow’s various slides, swings, rope bridges and climbing nets, you can dig in to hot Halloween-themed pizza from The Rumble Hut on site, cooked in a wood-fired Gozney oven by Italian chef Salvatore (there are gluten-free and vegan options too).

The Rumble Hut

For the full Halloween experience, there’s even a pumpkin carving tent (with pumpkins provided, naturally – you’re not expected to lug your Tesco’s haul across the car park). Pumpkin carving costs an extra £5, with tools and instructions on hand for minimal tantrums.

Pumpkin Carving

Tumblestone Hollow and the park gardens are suitable for children up to 11 years old, but we reckon it’s the littles that will make the most of this experience. The massive playground is a gem that’s straight out of a Harry P film – we can see where the 250k budget went – and Stonor’s grounds look spectacular with the changing colours. Just remember to bring umbrellas, as apart from the Visitor’s Centre there’s not a lot of covered areas.

The Moon Witch’s Halloween Adventure is open from 20 – 31 Oct, 9:30am to 5pm, with pumpkin carving taking place every hour.

Tickets cost £8.50 for adults, £11 for children over 105cm, £9 for children 92cm to 105cm, and children under 92cm and adult carers go free. Pre-booking is essential and tickets will be limited to adhere to social distancing measures.
