Surely the best cake EVER

Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Kids features here.

Usually I am of the slightly-overcooked fairycake school when it comes to my children’s birthdays. But not this year baby. I’ve, um, ‘outsourced’ the issue and scored an outer galaxy winner with this stupendously brilliant cake from Louise at LouBird’s Cakes. I mean come on, respect!

Based in Grendon Underwood, Louise took the pathetic brief – ‘er, Star Wars’ – and came up with this utterly brilliant chocolate cake. You can eat Darth Vader, Yoda and Luke and also the Death Star apparently.

Just loving Darth Vader and Yoda’s hair on his head LOL!

Prices start from £35 (though this one cost a bit more obvs), so very reasonable, and I’ll let you know afterwards how good it tastes – though what’s the betting it’s out of this world? Oh come on, that’s funny!

Obviously she also does weddings, adult birthdays, and the usual array of cakey things but was also telling me about a brand new venture that’s just brilliant – selection boxes of cakes through the post. I mean, that’s just genius if you want to cheer up a mate, say happy birthday from afar or send a treat to a business you’re working with, don’t you think?

You can order them as one offs or as a regular monthly occurrence. A three month membership is £45 – a small price to pay for a whopper box of happiness in my book.

Apparently it took Lou ages to find the right sized box to fit through a letter box (kind of crucial for the enterprise). But lo! Now her sponge cake, caramel slices, shortbread and rocky road can wing their way via your postie, if you can trust him not to nibble the goods.

With my little boys birthday [not so slowly] creeping up on me this post is a gem. Loving the creativity esp a I have none when it comes to baking!

I know, I am utterly hopeless. Give LouBird a call, she’ll sort you out I’m sure! x
