The Crown Inn, Sydenham
Muddy says: Fabulous gastropub located in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside, with a mix of traditional and contemporary dishes. Enjoy a drink, a meal and a game of Aunt Sally.
The Crown Inn in Sydenham dates back to the 1600s, but it’s had a facelift over the last two years by landlords Will & Pippa, who have injected some new energy into the old pub. It’s set in a beautiful position opposite the 12th century church, and you can sit and drink outside the front of the pub, or out the back in an attractive courtyard garden complete with the local Aunt Sally pub game (if you haven’t played it after a few drinks you don’t know what you’re missing!).
The food is largely classic pub fare and the portions are generous – the burger felled my 9 year old, which takes some doing.
The Crown Inn has a strong locals vibe, putting on plenty of events and utilising its growing gin bar to great effect.
