The Lygon Arms, Worcestershire

Muddy says: An historic Tudor coaching inn that makes a stylish and welcoming base from which to explore Broadway and the Cotswolds. Or you could just hole up in the hotel and enjoy the fine dining restaurant and wondrous spa.

Not for nothing has The Lygon Arms in Worcestershire been voted Top 3 Hotels in the UK by Conde Nast Traveller 2018. A fabulous Tudor coaching inn located in the pretty village of Broadway in The Cotswolds, this place has played host to both Oliver Cromwell and King Charles I during the English Civil War (although not at the same time, ahem), plus more recently other royalty, politicians, prime ministers, actors and celebs, including Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

The original flagstone floors, wooden beams and wonky walls remain but a recent refurb has given the whole place a luxe, comfortable and super stylish vibe – think locally sourced antiques and period features and some quirky touches too.

There’s an opulent spa with large Victorian-inspired indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms, a bar and grill with a bistro style menu and lots of lovely lounging nooks and crannies with log fires in the winter. Children are welcome with a kids club in the holidays, and you can bring your four-legged friends too.
