The Red Lion in Cholsey, near Wallingford, had changed several times before the current landlords took it on in Nov 2016. Since then there’s been a stylish refurb (think Windsor chairs, muted wall colours, mixy-matchy furniture), and a breath of fresh air through this South Oxfordshire pub.

It’s a strongly ‘local’ pub in the best sense of the word, where you can just pop in for a drink but also eat well if you’re inclined. A new Steakhouse taster night is starting on Feb 22 (a free bottle of red thrown in for your £50 sharing platter) and there’s a large garden to enjoy your drinkies en famille.
