Stoke Park, Stoke Poges
Muddy says: Impressive five star hotel with a relaxed, family-friendly vibe. Top rate golf course, tennis courts, world class spa and 3AA rosette fine dining restaurant should keep you busy.
Over the years I’ve checked out plenty of supposedly ‘child-friendly’ swanky hotels where somehow you still feel compelled to talk in hushed tones but I’ve been to Stoke Park several times and every time it’s the same – luxurious but incredibly relaxed. This large 5 star hotel with country club (lawn tennis, bowls, croquet and golf course) and award winning spa (Vanity Fair called it one of the ‘four Must Visit spas in the world’) is a haven of charm with a mix of traditional and modern interiors.
There’s a lovely kids playground around the back of the property plus kids’ creche which those aged 0-5 years can use at all times, and 5-8 year olds can book in on weekends and holidays, so it’s a low-guilt way to carve out a bit more time for yourselves. Kids are also allowed to have lunch in the elegant surroundings of Humphry’s during school holidays so you can sample chef Chris Wheeler’s incredible food en famille, or there’s the Italian San Marco restaurant plus The Orangery for breakfasts, afternoon teas and all day dining with fabulous views.
It’s a stunning estate where you can’t help but feel pampered; return to the real world relaxed and recharged.
