Muddy says: Need to brush up your digital skills to boost your career? Oxford-based TechPixies have courses for that.

I’ve lost count of the amount of women I’ve met who’ve had a career break while they’ve looked after small children or elderly relatives and then found their confidence zapped when they’ve tried to get back in groove with the world of work. Not easy, is it? So all power to TechPixies, the brainchild of two Oxford working mothers, which helps women upskill with tech and improve their career prospects in a fun, safe and supportive environment. As well as workplace returners, many of their clients are entrepreneurs looking to make the next step with their burgeoning businesses.

They offer a range of courses, with the flagship “Transformation” a 12 week programme covering digital marketing or building a website. No previous experience is necessary, you meet in small groups of 6-12 women in an Oxfordshire or London location, and teaching is during school hours (hurray!) during term time (HURRAY!) There’s a lovely social enterprise side to this too – they offer bursaries for those who most need them.

There’s also taster courses so you can dip a toe in, and specialty ones that focus on specific software or disciplines such as WordPress, graphic design or Google Adwords.  Of their first two cohorts in 2015, 100 percent of the attendees are now back in the workplace. So TechPixies mean business, in both senses.
