The Anchor, Oxford
Muddy says: A stylish neighbourhood pub in Oxford with superior food – well worth the short walk from Jericho’s buzzy Walton Street.
When central Oxford is heaving and you’re trawling around for a decent lunch, dinner or weekend brunch, I’d highly recommend The Anchor. This brilliant gastro-pub is a 5 minute walk from the buzzy Walton Street in Jericho on a quiet residential street, which means a relaxed, neighbourhood feel and – bonus – it’s pleasingly tourist-free.
In the summer, you can while away an afternoon in the sun terrace that runs along the side of the building, while the open fireplace and cosy bar make it a great winter hang-out too. I’m a huge fan of the rustic-chic dining room with its gorgeous monochrome checked tiles. The service is fast and friendly, and, food-wise, every dish is a winner. Whatever you choose from the modern British classics menu, get it with a side-order of the utterly moreish courgette fritters (unless I’ve eaten them all first of course).
