The Crown Inn, Amersham

The Crown Inn ticks all the boxes for a traditional English inn – eating , drinking, lodging – all wrapped up in a slick and super-stylish bow. Muddy loves.

Part of the Cotswolds and Chiltern Hotel Group (which includes Kings Chapel in Old Amersham, The Redesdale Arms in Moreton-in-Marsh, Kings Arms in Old Amersham and Number Four at Stow, Stow-on-the-Wold), The Crown is a 16th century stunner of a four-star coaching inn, sitting plum in the centre of Amersham.

Made up of three timber-framed buildings, the inn has 45 chic rooms designed by Ilse Crawford, whose portfolio includes Soho House New York and Cecconi’s in Mayfair. They’re all decked out with little luxuries (hello rolltop baths, luxe bed linen and sheepskin rugs). There’s also a bar and beautiful courtyard room with exposed beams, Inglewood fireplace and bay windows, available to hire for weddings and parties. Going large when Covid lets us? There’s the option to take over the whole hotel.

The Crown adds to Amersham’s excellent foodie offering (Michelin-starred Artichoke is directly opposite and cosy pub The Kings Arms is a neighbour) and is the home of Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar’s 2 AA Rosette restaurant Hawkyns, which serves fine-dining dishes combining pan Indian and British flavours.
