A brand new super-luxe 5 star hotel in Bucks? Don’t mind if I do!

Set in 150 acres of Capability Brown-designed grounds, the 18th century former estate of the Duke of Marlborough is a total knockout, spilling over with original features in a renovation that’s taken five years.

It’s all very period drama, with ornate fireplaces and doorways, floor mosaics and floor to ceiling windows. You kind of expect to see Colin Firth in a wet shirt beckoning you in – yup, there’s also a lake here – at the top of the external stairs on arrival. That said, there are some funkier touches like art deco chandeliers in the drawing room and very cool ‘paint splatter’ dining room chairs. Prettier than they sound!

There are 41 luxury rooms in total, either in the main mansion or the Grade II listed Brewhouse building opposite which has six garden rooms with outdoor areas (four legged friends are welcome in these rooms too).

The hotel offers top-tier dining with the principal restaurant, Cedar, headed up by chef Marco Ardemagni and pastry chef Francesco Martella, both formerly of Sushi Samba. Cedar offers all day dining, sharing platters and has an enormous terrace overlooking the lawns and river.

The Langley also boasts a huge spa (the second biggest underground spa in Europe, in fact) which features the only hotel hammam outside London, exclusive VIP suites, an amethyst crystal steam room, female only areas, heated relaxation loungers, ice fountain, five treatment rooms, a remarkable Himalayan salt sauna, two thermal areas and a stand-out 16 metre marble indoor swimming pool with an infinity edge. There’s also a state of the art gym run by fitness guru Matt Roberts offering bespoke training, consultations and group classes.
