The Old Thatched Inn, Adstock

This lovely 16th century building – a thatched inn, unsurprisingly – is in the small, well-heeled village Adstock, a few miles south of Buckingham. The pub has its fair share of locals tumbling in for a pint but it’s actually more of a foodie destination, offering 120 covers and a grown-up vibe in several eating areas, including a large modern conservatory.

Lovers of super-contemporary design won’t be fans of the aertex and middle-of-the-road furnishings but the log fires, low ceiling and general prettiness will please those appreciative of England’s thatched pubs.

Food is ‘foodie’ – you’ll appreciate The Old Thatched Inn best if you bed in for an afternoon or evening over three courses and a good bottle of wine.

Close by are Stowe Landscape Gardens, Silverstone and Claydon House so if you’re planning a trip out you might want to add this pub on your potential gastro list.
