Don’t press send! Read ‘Texts from your Ex’

Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Media features here.

It will come as no surprise to you that I love social media – but unlike twitter and facebook I’m not on Instagram because I don’t like to post pictures before I’ve written something. It kind of spoils the surprise of the feature.

Somehow though, I did come across a very funny instagram account the other day called Texts from Your Ex, which basically collates real life terse text exchanges between ex partners. Admittedly it’s a rather ugly idea if you think too hard about it, and if I wasn’t half cut I might attempt a connection between this instagram feed and the cold faceless future of how we live our lives (but I’ve just poured another so *meh*, I’ll spare you that). On a  more positive note, I do think they’re compelling in their own tiny way. They work like vignettes from a play, or those one line novels that can create a whole world in just a few words. They seem sad and pathetic and vicious and funny all at the same time. Look, see what you think. (PS Sorry for the f-ing below, but it’s such a good one I had to leave it in).

And my absolute and total favourite:

If it raises a smile, you can check out instagram here and revel in the fact, that no matter how messy your own life gets, someone else’s is always worse!
